How you can hit solid golf chip shots

It's a simple but extremely effective way of getting the golf ball close to the flag from around the edges of the green.

3 keys to consistent chipping

The 3 keys to understanding this are the following:-

1. Set up with a narrow stance range from around 5 to 10 inches apart.

This helps to keep the legs quiet and the focus to remain on the upper body as it controls the shots.

2. Keep about 60% of your weight forward on your lead leg. A little bit more is okay as long as it's forward.

This ensures the body is in a better position to allow the golf club to make a descending blow on the golf ball and create a solid golf chip shot.

This also helps eliminate any sort of ‘lifting’ or ‘scooping’ action at the golf ball that will result in a thinned or fat type of chip shot.

3. As you make contact with the golf ball ensure the handle of the golf club finishes past the lead thigh.

This is vital, as it ensures you keep the clubhead square and down and through the ball through impact and increases your chances of making solid contact.

Don't ever let the handle of the clubhead point back towards your post-impact.

If all else fails

I came across an alternate method for hitting solid golf chip shots for those golfers that struggle with the traditional method above.

Set up with the golf club straight up and down in line with the centre of your body.
Have a square stance toward your target line.
Keep your weight evenly distributed at address.
Make a shallower backswing and follow-through after impact with the golf ball.

This alternate golf chipping technique has worked really well for me and offers a great solution to golfers really struggling with their short game.

Because the method involves a shallower swing path you are increasing your chances of making solid contact with your golf chip shots.
