Teaching kids to play golf the right way
Golf is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide. In the last few years it has become increasingly popular, so it’s no surprise that a number of kids want to take up the sport.
Tiger Woods, as a youthful 21 year old, exploded onto the golfing stage in 1997, and many have followed since.
It’s important to note however, that teaching kids to play golf must be done the correct way or bad habits can be ingrained into young golfers and can take years to disappear.
Young children are thirsty for knowledge, so if you can provide them with the correct basic foundation of a good golf swing, there is an excellent chance you will set them up to play great golf for years to come.
A great place to start is to have them learn the Perfect Impact System which is great for golfers of all ages.
It's simple and easy to learn and will develop the right fundamentals that need in the early stages of golfing.
Here are the 4 most important fundamentals to get kids playing great golf from the start:
1. The Stance
Without a proper golf stance, it is extremely difficult to perform a fundamental sound golf swing that will repeat for years to come.
The stance forms the basis of every solid golf swing, and is the first thing to cover when teaching kids to play golf.
Make sure the child can maintain a proper golf stance.
2. The Posture
It’s important that kids are taught the correct posture because this will ensure they look after their growing bodies as they progress in life.
A great golf posture puts a young golfer in the best possible position to craft a good golf swing.
When a young child masters correct posture, this skill will improve their game for years to come.
3. The Grip
Granted, there is no one perfect grip.
However, if your child can at least settle on one of the more popular grips and feel comfortable with it, this will stand them in good stead.
There are three basic golf grips; the overlapping, the interlocking and the baseball grip.
The best grips for your child are the overlapping and the interlocking grip.
Have your children try both to see which one feels most comfortable.
They can always alter their grip at a later date if necessary, but make sure they stick to these two.
4. Swing Plane
It’s probably the most difficult of the four to explain, but the most important.
A correct golf swing plane can often overcome any shortcomings in a poor stance, posture or grip.
It is the basic fundamental building block of a good golf swing.
If you can get the right golf swing plane ingrained into a young child, this will provide them an excellent foundation for the rest of their golfing life.
The swing plane is basically a strategy of swinging the club in the correct path around your body.
It’s best to teach this technique by demonstrating in person or on video, providing the young golfer a visual demonstration so they can see the direction of the golf swing in relation to the rest of their body.
What you need to do now
Any good golf professional will focus on these 4 fundamentals when teaching kids to play golf for the first time.
Make sure you find one that can not only teach your child the correct way of performing these techniques, but to make it fun as well.
After all, they are just kids and as long as they are having fun, they are more likely to become successful.
Teaching kids to play golf can be one of best gifts you can give your child.
Make sure you do it right the first time.
Don't forget to include the Perfect Impact System as part of your child's golf swing development.
It'll provide the right building blocks they need to develop a strong, powerful golf swing that last years into the future.
