Practice golf at home

How to practice golf at home the right way

Golfers are a lazy bunch! We want to play better golf, but sometimes just can’t be bothered even getting off the couch to practice. Perhaps that’s not entirely true, but sometimes I don’t feel like going to the golf driving range and ideally would like to know how to practice golf at home and work on my game. The football is about to start on television and I have trouble even getting up … sound familiar? To see improvement in any endeavour you have to practice, or better still … practice correctly.

Most golfers simple do not put in the hours required to see any real improvement in their golf game.

Going to the golf driving range once a month will not cut it!

In fact, unless you possess a great deal of natural talent, it’s probably a waste of time!

It’s not that golfers don’t want to practice, most enjoy the process. The problem is finding the time to do it in our busy lives.

Use the Stress Free Golf Swing methods at home like I did to make great improvement in your golf swing.

It's simple to use and understand and is perfect for golfers who don't have a lot of time to practice.

Grip it Right

Make yourself comfortable in your favourite spot on the couch. Grab your golf club and place your hands on the grip. Ideally you should be practicing either the interlocking or overlapping grip.

These are the two best ways how to grip a golf club used by PGA professionals.

Waggle the golf club back and forth and get a good feel for the grip and the pressure you are applying.

Repeat this for 5 minutes every day and the grip will begin to feel more comfortable and soon become habit.

How's Your Posture

I have used this practice method at home for years. It’s one of the best ways how to practice golf at home. All you need is a full length mirror which can be purchased separately or you can even use your wardrobe mirror.

Stand in the front of the mirror and get in your set up position.

Take note of your shoulder angles and the position of your arms as they hand down naturally.

Next, stand side on to the mirror and look at your spin angle from the waste to the top of the shoulders.

There should be a relatively straight line from your lower back to the top of your shoulders.

Check the Swing Path

Here's a great video below that shows how to practice golf at home using a wall to get the correct golf swing plane. The golf swing takeaway is a vital part of any successful golf swing.

Using the wall you get instant feedback on the position of the golf club as the golf swing begins.

When you get to the top of the backswing ensure your clubface is on plane and square to the target.

The wall gives you the perfect guide to ensure you are in the correct position every time.

The L to L Drill

I’ve talked about the L to L drill before on this blog. It’s a favourite of mine because of its simplicity and effectiveness. You don’t need to hit a golf ball to benefit from this drill. You will however, have to get off the couch as it’s difficult to do sitting down … sorry.

The key to this drill is ensuring you hinge the wrists properly on the backswing and the follow through.

You know you’re performed this correctly when the right wrist crosses over the left just after impact in the follow through.
