Golf Putting Drill: I Use This To Average 27-Putts A Round

Golf Putting Drill

A simple golf putting drill that works

Putting is one of the most important parts of playing consistent, solid golf. When you add up the number of putts taken during a round it makes up at least 1/3 of your total score and often more. Most amateur and beginner golfers have between 32 and 38 putts and don't practice any kind of golf putting drill to improve their putting. This is way too many and well short of the better players who average around 28 – 30 putts per round.

The key to becoming a great putter is largely about performing a good technique.

Yes, there is an important mental side to putting but for this post, I am going to focus on the technical aspect.

A good golf putting drill can help you achieve a consistent, repeatable stroke that sinks more putts every round.

I've had great success using the techniques in the Putting Game Improvement Program.

It takes just 5 minutes to learn and understand and is perfect for golfers of all handicaps, even if you only play once a week or even a month.

3 SECRET MOVES I WISH I WAS SHOWN WHEN I FIRST PLAYED GOLF

What most golfers do wrong

The biggest mistake I see golfers make with their putting is they use too much of their hands and arms in the putting stroke. This causes many problems including mishits and poor direction of the putter face. I found this excellent video instruction of a great golf putting drill from Marius Filmalter that I believe is one of the best you can use.

I personally do this before every putt to ensure my technique is spot on.

The key is to use your core muscles to perform the putting stroke which is your abdominals and lower stomach area.

This ensures your arms, shoulders, and wrists all work as one back and forth while your lower body remains still during the putting stroke.

This ensures a smooth stroke every time and guaranteed to sink a lot more putts.

The key parts to this method

Remember to keep the arms and hands from controlling the stroke and let the core muscles control the putting stroke.

I’ve had a lot of success in the last couple of months with this drill and I believe it’s a real key to successful putting.

Try this golf putting drill next time you play a round of golf and the putts will start to drop.

Don't forget to try out the Putting Game Improvement Program and start seeing some quick results in your putting.

It really works!
